Quality of Life
The population of Henry County increased by 62 percent between 1980 and 1990 and is expected to double in the next 20 years. However, the county will still be less than 50 percent developed. Newcomers to Henry County will find transportation throughout the region both quick and convenient. Over 20 miles of Interstate 75, one of the nation’s most traveled highways, traverse the county with seven interchanges. With such a high volume of traffic, most of the county’s commercial development occurs along this corridor.

With such a booming population, new subdivisions in all price ranges are popping up all over the county. First time homebuyers will find a large selection of pleasing two and three-bedroom homes. Many other communities feature larger, more spacious homes on eye-catching landscaped lots with community tennis and swimming facilities. The cultural community in Henry County is propelled by the Henry Arts Alliance. Organized to create awareness, stimulate interest, and encourage involvement in music, theater, dance, and literary and visual art, the alliance produces quality concerts, plays, art exhibits, and workshops.

Founded in 1882 and incorporated in 1920, Stockbridge is named for Professor Stockbridge, who taught school in the area before the Civil War. In more recent years, the city, long dominated by the rail system, has grown to the second largest incorporated community in Henry County. Immensely proud of its colorful heritage, the city celebrates “Ole” Stockbridge Days” each May. First time homebuyers are drawn to the city’s many two and three-bedroom homes set on spacious, landscaped lots. Combining the region’s natural beauty and the community’s well-kept homes, Stockbridge features some of the most beautiful neighborhoods south of Atlanta. Newer master-planned communities offer residents comprehensive tennis and aquatic facilities. Many Stockbridge residents even favor exclusive gated communities often surrounding the city’s well-manicured golf courses.
