Beautiful Grant County enjoys a unique and ideal location between the area known as “Northern Kentucky” and the famous Bluegrass Region. Ideally located within an hour’s drive of Lexington and Louisville in Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio, Grant County is well-served by Interstate 75 for commuting convenience to employment centers and regional attractions. Between the 1990 and 2000 census, the county population nearly doubled and continues to grow at a brisk rate.

The quality public school system is complemented by opportunities for a private education in independent or parochial environments. Gateway, Maysville, Jefferson, and Bluegrass community and technical college systems provide a number of campuses less than 60 miles from Grant County. State-supported universities within the same radius include Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Morehead State University at Mt. Sterling, and the University of Lexington in Kentucky. Northern Kentucky University provides an extension in Williamstown right in Grant County. From a tri-state viewpoint, the entire region is also dotted with career or vocational institutions and respected private colleges. Asbury College, Spencerian College, Sullivan University, Midway College, Georgetown College, and Brown Mackie College are among those in Kentucky. Indiana offers Hanover College; and Cincinnati is home to Antonelli College, Chatfield College, the College of Mount St. Joseph, Hebrew Union College, the Union Institute & University, and Xavier University.

State-of-the-art healthcare is available close to home at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Williamstown, an institution that is continually growing to meet the needs of an expanding population. Recent additions include a $2.5 million emergency room and a $3 million outpatient surgery center. This 30-bed institution provides advanced diagnostics and treatment to residents of Grant County but also serves as a cooperative facility for highly skilled professionals throughout northern Kentucky. More than 30 specialists from across the region are able to see and treat their patients at St. Elizabeth. As one of the largest and most respected of the medical centers in Greater Cincinnati, the St. Elizabeth healthcare network consistently ranks in the top five percent of hospitals across the nation for quality of care.

Newcomers to Grant County will be amazed at the kaleidoscope of sparkling lakes, rushing streams, dramatic ridges, and rolling hills. With such a picturesque setting, the communities in Grant County are able to offer an idyllic rural environment for living, working, or playing. “Southern hospitality” is the calling card of Grand County, a pleasing mix of historic preservation, breathtaking scenery, and contemporary development. Boaters and water-sport enthusiasts will appreciate the area’s sparkling lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities. Pleasure boating, water skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, and horseback riding are common pastimes. Shopping is available in factory outlets that offer deep discounts on name-brand merchandise, although boutiques and antique dealers are tucked away in charming districts.

Housing in Grant County ranges from historic properties and well-kept older homes in established neighborhoods to handsome new homes in traditional and contemporary styles and vibrant new subdivisions. The county seat of Williamstown is the hub of education, healthcare, government, and commerce. The city is part of the Kentucky Main Street Program, evidence of a progressive attitude toward growth and expansion. Other small municipalities in the county include Corinth, Crittenden, and Dry Creek; although the lion’s share of new-home construction in Grant County stretches across the rolling countryside. The influence of Interstate 75 has been far-reaching, spurring much of the new construction that continues to cover yesterday’s rural acreage. Williamstown anchors Grant County, serving as the county seat and balancing a growing regional economy with residential neighborhoods, a downtown district, and recreational amenities. Main Street is not only a focal point for shops, businesses, and services but often serves as a community gathering place for colorful annual celebrations and events like the Williamstown Derby Days.
