In general, newcomers to Colorado must have their dogs, cats, and sometimes ferrets over the age of three months vaccinated against rabies or be able to provide proof of vaccination within the past 12 months. Dogs must be licensed annually, which includes current rabies vaccinations. Animal control laws can vary with the municipality, often covering leash regulations and even excessive barking.
