Services
Situated on the prairie of the Gulf Coast area in southeastern Texas, Brazoria County lies at the mouth of the Brazos River. Bordering Fort Bend, Harris, and Galveston Counties, the small and welcoming communities scattered throughout the county are encompassed in the Houston metropolitan area. Unlike most counties, Brazoria has no primary city. Nine cities form a single economic entity called “Brazosport.” Other large cities include Alvin, Angleton, and Pearland. Abundant oil spurred development of a large petrochemical industry, although recent years have diversified the economy with government employers, construction, trade, services, and tourism.

Residents of Brazoria County enjoy easy access to the world-class services in Houston, but they also have urban advantages close to home. Alvin Community College provides two campuses — one in Alvin and one in Pearland — where students can begin a four-year degree program, earn two-year degrees and certificates, or continue their higher education. Brazosport College in Lake Jackson offers additional opportunities in a community college environment.

State-of-the-art healthcare is available through a regional network of skilled physicians, emergency care centers, family practice clinics, and leading hospitals. Alvin Medical Center in Alvin is associated with Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, serving as a regional outpatient facility. Nearby in Galveston County is the University of Texas Medical Branch, a campus that combines health-science education with a full range of primary and specialized medical care and a network of hospitals and clinics that includes an affiliated Shriners children’s hospital.

Lifestyle
Home to rivers, creeks, prairie land, coastal marshes, and vast groves of hardwood trees, Brazoria County is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Water sports, fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, and camping are just a few of the popular activities. Annual festivals and celebrations abound, from Brazoria’s Bluegrass and Gospel Fall Festival to the San Jacinto Festival in West Columbia. Other amenities include a Fine Arts Council, Little Theater, symphony, fine museums and historical sites, and a county library system.

Area parks include Varner-Hogg State Park, Bryan Beach State Park, Bayou Wildlife Park Exotic Animal Paradise, the Brazoria and San Bernard Wildlife Refuges, and the Lake Jackson Wilderness Park. The Brazosport Center of the Arts and Sciences at Brazosport College boasts the largest exhibit of seashells in the southern US, and it also offers a planetarium and nature trail. The Sea Center Texas is a $13 million, 60-acre marine development with aquarium and education center in Lake Jackson.

Home choices in Brazoria County are diverse, attractive, and affordable. Convenient to Beltway 8, Pearland is a particularly fast-growing community in the northern part of the county. Through the region, newcomers will discover friendly small towns that offer a serene rural atmosphere in close proximity to Houston’s amenities. Enjoying a prime location in the desirable Gulf Coast area, residents enjoy the added attractions in Clear Lake and Galveston—including Kemah Boardwalk, The Strand on Galveston Island, and the Texas Ice Stadium.
