Heber City and the Heber Valley are the focal points of Wasatch County, a scenic region in close proximity to both Salt Lake City and Provo/Orem. Wasatch County could easily be called the home of “Utah’s slice of Switzerland.” Boasting some of Utah’s most spectacular alpine and valley terrain, Wasatch County is home to magnificent residential developments that take advantage of lake and mountain vistas. Newcomers to this area can look forward to a quick trip to the delights of Park City and world-class ski resorts as well.

Attracted by the scenic and majestic Wasatch Mountain range that reminded them of their homeland, many of the early settlers of Wasatch County were Swiss. Particularly in the small community of Midway, that Swiss influence and heritage is still evident. Swiss architectural details embellish most of the city’s residences and commercial establishments, and the annual Swiss Days celebration each September attracts more than 80,000 visitors from across the West.

Heber City is the hub of economic strength and diversity in picturesque Wasatch County, cited by Money magazine as one of America’s “hottest little boomtowns.” The criteria for the ranking was a population less than 50,000, a broad mix of professional or technical jobs, and a median income nearly 25 percent above the national average.

The variety of economic activity in Heber Valley encompasses business, retailing, goods, services, recreation, and tourism  With activities for the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Wasatch Mountain State Park near Midway and at the Winter Sports Park in nearby Park City, the Heber Valley managed to attract even more attention as one of Utah’s most picturesque and pristine locations.

State-of-the-art healthcare is available through Heber Valley Medical Center, committed to providing world-class healthcare within the context of a rural community environment. Founded as a county hospital, the institution has expanded over the years and is now part of the Intermountain Health Care system. The hospital provides a wide range of quality inpatient and outpatient services that include 24-hour emergency services, diagnostic imaging and radiology, home care and hospice, medical equipment rental, surgical specialties, and services dedicated to women and newborns.

Enhancing the quality public school system, several options for higher education are available close to home. College-credit coursework is available at the Wasatch campus for Utah Valley State College and the extension for Utah State University. Just minutes from Heber Valley in Provo/Orem or Salt Lake City, major public and private colleges and universities offer diverse programs. Among them are Brigham Young University, Utah Valley State College, the University of Utah, and Salt Lake Community School.

Keeping pace with a growing economy are transportation efficiencies that include a local airport. The Heber Valley General Aviation Airport is currently ranked as the fastest growing airport in Utah with a 20 percent annual rate of growth. The airport is conveniently located just two miles from the center of Heber, paralleling Highway 189.

One of the primary attractions to Wasatch County and Heber Valley is the small-town atmosphere set against panoramic natural beauty in close proximity to dynamic metropolitan areas like Provo/Orem and Salt Lake City. The year-round recreational, retail, and cultural mecca of Park City is another accessible destination. In fact, Sundance Institute at the base of Mt. Timpanogos is just a 10-minute drive from Heber Valley.
