Area youth receive a quality education through the Bibb County School District, operated from its headquarters in the county seat of Centreville. The Career Technical Center is located in West Blocton, providing a variety of career technical programs to students from the Bibb County and West Blocton high schools for more than 30 years, the center offers a peaceful setting for both students and faculty. Brierfield Ironworks Historical State Park situated between Montevallo and Centreville was built around the ruins of the Bibb Furnaces that were destroyed toward the end of the Civil War. Another grand historic site is the Woodstock United Methodist Church, featuring 19th century Gothic Revival Ecclesiastical architecture. Serving as the Bibb County seat of government, Centreville boasts a full-service hospital, modern schools, and a gallery of well-preserved architecture. The focal point of the city is the grand 1890 courthouse, although several historic churches and commercial buildings grace the cityscape including the 1890 Centreville Baptist Church. The historic town of West Blocton had its origin with the coal miners of West Alabama, refusing to become a ghost town at the end of the mining era. The early settlement of Blocton was the headquarters for the Cahaba Coal Mining Company and the site of the innovative beehive coke ovens. In addition to the rustic remnants of its colorful history, the community displays great pride in the natural legacy of the extremely rare and exquisitely beautiful Cahaba River Lilly that grows near the Cahaba River. Each year, residents welcome visitors to the Cahaba River Festival to celebrate the largest stand of these aquatic plants in the entire world. Formerly known as North Bibb, Woodstock selected the name of a long-established local community when it incorporated in 2000. The smallest of the Bibb County communities, this friendly and welcoming city is nestled in the northernmost section of the county. The Southern Railroad tracks run through the town just north of the historical Woodstock United Methodist Church, placed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 1991.
