\nRich in cultural and recreational opportunities, Transylvania County strikes a fine balance between rural tranquility and urban amenities. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, the Brevard Music Center has been providing young musicians with the opportunity to develop their talents for more than 70 years. Each summer, hundreds of students from age 14 to post college graduates come together to “eat, sleep, and breathe music” for seven full weeks. More than 80 public performances crown this annual program that blends distinguished professional musicians with an intense performance schedule. Paul Porter Center for the Performing Arts at the college is the crown jewel of the campus, hosting the collegiate theatre program and many world-renowned artists. The college town of Brevard serves as the gateway to Pisgah National Forest and a notable tourist, retirement, and cultural center in Western North Carolina. Rosman draws newcomers to small-town friendliness and easy access to world-class recreational opportunities in the unspoiled wilderness of Pisgah National Forest. The French Broad River actually traverses through the downtown district of Rosman, bordered by the expansive Champion Park.
