It was named for Revolutionary War General, Congressman, and Senator James Jackson. Today, the county has nine municipalities. The county seat is Jefferson, named for President Thomas Jefferson. It was originally located on the site of an Indian Village, Thomocoggan. In recent years, Commerce, the most populous city in Jackson County, has become a leading outlet center. Other municipalities include Braselton, Arcade, Hoschton, Maysville, Nicholson, Pendergrass, and Talmo.<\/p>\n<p>The Jackson County courthouse, built in 1829, stands as a prime example of the beautiful neoclassical architecture once popular throughout Georgia. Georgia state high school track and field championships are held in Jefferson, home of one of the top track facilities in the state. Other attractions include the Atlanta International Dragway in Commerce and Road Atlanta in Braselton. A strong sense of community pride is evident throughout the county with the celebration of Spring Fling in April, the Cold Sassy Fall Festival in August, and Crawford Long Days in November.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Services<\/strong><br \/>\nJackson County touts itself as \u201ca fine place to live, work, and grow.\u201d Over a dozen new industries have selected Jackson County as home in the past several years. In fact, an estimated 3,200 new jobs are created in Jackson County each year as a result of the continued outward expansion of Atlanta&#8217;s urban areas.<\/p>\n<p>Public schools within Jackson County are operated by the Jackson County School System, Jefferson City Schools, and Commerce City Schools. All three systems take pride in offering students high academic standards. Each system offers its own unique combination of skill-based curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, and enriching after school activities.<\/p>\n<p>BJC Medical Center, located in Commerce, fulfills the medical needs of the surrounding community. The town was incorporated in 1916 and Braselton became the town\u2019s first mayor. Today, Braselton\u2019s Town Hall is the original home built by William Henry Braselton in 1909 and is regularly open for tours. Now located in Jackson, Barrow, Gwinnett, and Hall counties, Braselton enjoys convenient access to I-85 and Georgia Highways 211, 60, 124, and 53. These major arteries facilitate easy travel throughout the entire region. Braselton residents find themselves just 45 minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta and just 60 minutes from Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport. Hoschton is located in the far western section of Jackson County and nearly adjoins its neighbor Braselton. While situated in a largely rural, northeastern Georgia location, Hoschton retains a convenient route of transportation to the greater Atlanta area. The city lies along Highway 53 near the junction of I-85. This major artery ensures Hoschton residents an easy drive south to the amenities of the metropolitan area. Serving as the county seat for Jackson County, Jefferson is home to the Jackson County Courthouse, one of Georgia\u2019s oldest courthouses still in service. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Italianate-style courthouse was built in 1879 and remains a local treasure. The Crawford W. Long Museum is Jefferson\u2019s other notable attraction.
