NORTH CAROLINA<\/strong><\/p>\n

Registration Requirements
\n<\/strong>Students must be at least five years old on or before October 16 of the enrollment year to register for kindergarten and at least six years old on or before the same date for first-grade registration. Several documents will be necessary for registration, including proof of residency, the child’s certified birth certificate and social security number, and a health assessment. The latter must be signed by a physician and include a physical exam, vision screening, and hearing screening.<\/p>\n

North Carolina law also requires immunizations in the proper doses and intervals for DTP, polio, measles, mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Hib for children born after October 1, 1988. The certification of immunization must include the name, birthdate, and sex of the child as well as name and contact information for the parent or guardian. SOUTH CAROLINA<\/strong><\/p>\n

Registration Requirements
\n<\/strong>According to South Carolina law, all children between the ages of five and 17 are required to attend school. Children who will be five years-old on or before Sept. 1 must enroll in kindergarten unless a parent or guardian signs an official wavier, available through local elementary schools. All students entering first grade must be six years-old on or before Sept. 1.<\/p>\n

To register, call the elementary school that is located within your attendance zone. Take your child’s state issued birth certificate, SC Certificate of Immunization, Social Security card and two proofs of residence to the school to which you are zoned. According to state law, schools may only accept a SC Certificate of Immunization which can be obtained from physicians, county health departments or military clinics.<\/p>\n

Parents of children new to the district may bring sealed permanent records from their previous school. If not delivered by hand, parents should sign a record release form at their previous school and provide your new school with the previous school’s mailing address.<\/p>\n

You should tell the principal if your child has been enrolled in gifted programs or in special education classes.<\/p>\n
