\nNamed after the clover patch that grew around the water tank that serviced the Chester and Lenoir Narrow Gauge Rail Road, Clover is in the Western part of York County. It was originally settled by Scotch-Irish immigrants, Clover hosts an annual Clover Festival in June to celebrate its history and heritage. The newest addition to Clover’s recently renovated downtown, the Larne Building, is used as a community meeting hall and banquet facility and honors Clover’s sister city of Larne in Northern Ireland. The picturesque Town of Fort Mill is located almost adjacent to the state line shared with North Carolina. Its located in close proximity to Rock Hill, SC, to the south and Charlotte, NC, to the north. The town is home to more than 9,000 residents with a total of nearly 35,000 individuals residing within the entire Township. Fort Mill is named after a colonial-era fort built by the British and a grist mill located on the nearby Steele Creek. Scotch-Irish settlers began arriving to the area in the late 1700\u2019s and a small settlement soon developed. Fort Mill grew rapidly in the late 1800’s as textile mills were established. Today Textiles still play an important role in the local economy. Several new developments are being added to Fort Mill and with its easy access to I-77 and its wonderful small town ambiance, Fort Mill attracts many new residents. This combined with a high quality of life, some of the best schools in the state and a great location not far from Charlotte makes this area a wonderful choice.<\/p>\n

Rock Hill is York County’s oldest and largest city with just under 50,000 residents. Tega Cay is the youngest city in York County, becoming incorporated in 1982. Tega Cay means “beautiful peninsula” in Polynesian, which perfectly describes the almost 16 miles of Lake Wylie shoreline and 2.5 square miles of land the city occupies. Although a small city, Tega Cay residents enjoy several recreational opportunities, including a 27-hole championship golf course, tennis courts, a full-service marina, two all purpose athletic fields, a 2.5 mile paved walking trail and two city  parks and a swim complex\/beach club.  Best of all this inviting community offers the benefit of its location close to the Charlotte metro area.<\/p>\n

The city of York is the County seat for York County. This historic  city is known as the “White Rose City,” and  is one of the largest historic districts in the country. York is home to just over 7,800 residents. It was originally settled by emigrants from Pennsylvania and Virginia, in its long history York had many names, being called the “Village of Yorkville,” the “Town of Yorkville,” and finally the “Town of York” in 1915.<\/p>\n

The City of York is located in the western part of York County. The city is going through significant growth and change. This change is being driven by the increasing growth and economic prosperity of the nearby Charlotte Metro area.  Through this change York maintains its character of a small friendly community with a strong historic core and a more relaxed lifestyle that is cherished by its residents.
