Dayton is home to first-rate educational institutions on every academic level, anchored by quality public school districts and abundant choices for a private education. Post-secondary opportunities include the Miami-Jacobs Career College for specialized training and Sinclair Community College. The downtown Dayton campus for the college is one of the largest of any community college in the nation, providing college-track programs, direct-to-work career programs, and a wide range of continuing education opportunities. SCC has been recognized as a Vanguard Learning College, a term designated by the League for Innovation to recognize the top 12 learning-centered, two-year institutions in North America. The University of Dayton is another feather in the cap of the city, ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a top-tier national, doctoral-level institution and one of the 10 best Catholic universities in the nation. The Wright State University in Dayton offers a highly respected state-supported institution offering more than 100 undergraduate and 50 graduate, doctoral, and professional degrees.

Healthcare services and facilities in Dayton provide award-winning care and advanced technologies. The Miami Valley Hospital is a regional leader, home to CareFlight Air and Mobile Services, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, and the birthing center for the majority of the region’s babies. The hospital has earned HealthGrade’s Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, ranking it among the top five percent in the nation. Good Samaritan Hospital adds award-winning, multi-campus resources that include cardiovascular care, cancer treatment, orthopedics, neurosciences, diagnostics, and women’s health. Hospitals in the Kettering Health Network have earned equally impressive stripes with Solucient and HealthGrade, complemented by specialized institutions like the local heart hospital and a major veterans’ medical center.

Nationally recognized as the “Birthplace of Aviation,” the progressive city of Dayton harmonizes Midwestern hospitality and family values with urban sophistication. Aficionados of aviation still flock to this area to visit nationally famous centers like the National Museum of the United States Air Force or the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historic Park. New residents will discover an entire world of great attractions, historical sites, wonderful museums, elegant cultural venues, a thriving downtown district, beautiful parks, sporting events, and a wide selection of shopping and dining opportunities. Dayton boasts an especially strong arts community supported by active organizations and crowned by the spectacular new $130 million Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center. This multi-stage complex is the jewel of Dayton’s downtown renaissance, and the home of the city’s celebrated permanent companies for dance, opera, and classical music. One of Dayton’s landmark areas is the Neon District, where neon trim first lit up the city’s Transportation Center and movie theaters. As Dayton’s oldest neighborhood, the Oregon Historic District stands as an architectural monument to the past. Founded when the Miami-Erie Canal was first opening for business, this district features homes and businesses in a wide spectrum of intriguing styles, from Gothic and Classic Revival to Stick and Shingle. The Motor Car District once hosted a medley of auto dealerships. Today, The Citizens Motorcar Company: America’s Packard Museum is the only venue in the nation dedicated solely to the Packard. The Webster Station Historic District with its Roman and Sullivan-styled architecture now houses The Cannery development of urban lofts and eclectic retail spaces including art galleries and wine shops. The National City Second Street Public Market is at home here, featuring scores of farm, floral, and art vendors. The Terra Cotta District is a reminder of the popularity of terra cotta in the post-flood reconstruction of the early 1900s. With their ornamental faces, these buildings form a pleasing contrast to modern structures.
