Sandhills Community College offers residents the opportunity to further their education through a variety of programs. Central Carolina Community College provides a campus in nearby Harnett County, making it possible for residents to launch a degree both conveniently and affordably.<\/p>\n<p>Several other community and technical colleges are available in neighboring counties. More than a dozen other colleges and universities are available within an hour&#8217;s commute of Harnett County. This town which was originally named Blue&#8217;s Crossing was settled in the 1700&#8217;s by Scottish emigrants. The town embraces its history as a railroad town and offers all the charm that a small town can provide. The town was incorporated in 1876. The town was a bustling commercial center with shops, a millstone company and turpentine distilleries. Today Cameron is the antique capital of the Sandhills region. Many of Cameron&#8217;s historic homes have antique shops and tearooms in them. Moore County is also a popular retirement destination thanks to the pleasant year round climate and excellent medical facilities. Carthage is the fastest growing municipality in Moore County and one of the 20 fastest growing municipalities in all of North Carolina. The Village is home to beautiful homes situated on large lots, surrounded by the long leaf pines that region is famous for. Foxfire Village is a resort community that is meticulously shepherded by its residents and Village Council which help it maintain its position as a premier residential community. Robbins is twelve miles from the County seat of Carthage, and 35 miles south of Asheboro. This design was created to add that sense of small town charm that those New England Villages are known for. Pinehurst enjoys international recognition as a golf resort. It is home to the famous Pinehurst golf resorts. The Village of Pinehurst and Pinehurst Resorts were given National Landmark status in 1996 for their role in U. S. golf history. There are 43 golf courses within minutes of Pinehurst. Besides its golfing facilities, The Village of Pinehurst maintains park facilities for residents to enjoy; Cannon Park, which has recreational facilities, ball fields and a children\u2019s playground, and Rassie Wicker Park, the location of the Village Hall and Police Department.
