Kentucky Driver Licenses<\/strong>
\nNewcomers have a 30-day grace period in which to obtain a Kentucky driver license. Written, vision, and skills testing will be required with the exception of new residents who hold a valid license from another state. In these cases, written and skills tests may be waived. Kentucky Vehicle Registration<\/strong>
\nIn Kentucky, the county clerk is responsible for issuing motor vehicle registrations and titles. The following items are necessary to complete the licensing of your vehicle(s) in Kentucky. If you own your car without liens, you will need a certified inspection from the sheriff\u2019s office from the county of your new residence, original out-of-state title, the original registration receipt, original current proof of insurance, proof of sales\/usage\/use tax paid to the previous state, and picture ID or driver license. New residents with liens will need to obtain a letter from their new county clerk\u2019s office that requests the title from the previous state if applicable or the original out-of-state title with the lien listed on it. Kentucky Safety Laws<\/strong>
\nKentucky law demands that the driver and all passengers in a moving vehicle must be secured in a properly adjusted seat belt at all times. Furthermore, all children who are less than 40 inches in height must be properly secured in a federally approved child safety restraint system. The law is primary, which means that violators can be pulled over and ticketed without the involvement of any other violation. The safest position in a vehicle for children is always the rear seat, which has been statistically shown to save lives and reduce injuries. Kentucky Watercraft Registration<\/strong>
\nEvery motorized watercraft on Kentucky waters must be registered and licensed. Bring proof of ownership to the same county clerk\u2019s office that handles vehicle registration and titling.<\/p>\n

Indiana Driver Licenses<\/strong>
\nNew residents must apply for an Indiana driver license within 60 days. Required documentation includes your social security number, proof of identity, and proof of Indiana residency. A legal birth certificate serves as the primary identification document and also provides proof of age when required. The road test is usually waived for who hold a valid license from another state, although you will need to pass the written and eye exams.<\/p>\n

Indiana Safety Laws<\/strong>
\nIndiana enforces a primary seat-belt law that allows a driver to be cited for non-compliance without any other violation. The driver and all front-seat passengers must be secured in a properly adjusted seat belt at all times in a moving vehicle. In Indiana, motorcycle drivers under the age of 18 and those with a motorcycle learner\u2019s permit are required by law to wear a helmet and eye protection. Up to the age of four years, the child must be properly secured in a child passenger restraint system. Children are required to ride properly restrained, which can include a belt-positioning booster seat, until they reach their eighth birthday. Children at least eight years old until their 16th birthday are required to ride properly restrained in a child restraint system or seat belt in all seating positions in all vehicles.<\/p>\n

Indiana Watercraft Registration<\/strong>
\nEvery motorized watercraft principally used on the waters of Indiana must be registered unless it is legally registered in another state and has not been in Indiana for more than 60 consecutive days. Motorized sailboats must be registered; non-motorized sailboats just pay excise taxes and other appropriate fees. Jet skies and other personal watercraft are considered to be motorized watercraft.
