Registration Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The public school system in Maine ensures quality educational options on every academic level. Registration of students in grades K-12 requires a legal birth certificate and an updated immunization record. Maine state law requires that each child have a physical exam within one year prior to school entry. Cut-off dates for kindergarten vary with the school district. You will also need your child\u2019s social security number and bring proof of residency or a Maine driver\u2019s license in order to register. Maine Public Education Administrative Units<\/strong><\/p>\n

School Administrative Unit
\n<\/strong>Two or more municipalities pool their educational resources in an SAU. One school committee administers the education of grades K-12 through a superintendent.<\/p>\n

Community School District <\/strong>Two or more municipalities and\/or districts form a CSD to build, maintain, and operate educational facilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unions of Towns <\/strong>Two or more administrative units share a superintendent but retain their own school boards and budgets.<\/p>\n

Cities or Towns with Individualized Supervision <\/strong>A school committee administers the education of all grades in the city or town through a superintendent.<\/p>\n

Education in Unorganized Territory <\/strong>EUT\u2019s are responsibility of the state, operating schools in unrecognized township municipalities.<\/p>\n
