The balanced economy in Central Oklahoma is largely supported by manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, and services. Recent decades have seen significant growth in education and healthcare services, in the metropolitan area which provide a significant number of jobs. Healthcare systems and hospitals have grown steadily, expanding facilities and adding advanced services. Tinker Air Force Base is the second largest employer at a single location in the area. The base has been responsible for attracting one of the highest concentrations of aerospace\/high-technology firms in the nation as well as scientists, engineers, technicians, and specialists to Oklahoma. The region as a whole has shown strong and continued economic stability with a positive track of growth in all areas.
