OREGON\u2019S COASTAL COMMUNITIES<\/p>\n

<\/b><\/strong>Oregon\u2019s coastal communities are world renown for their beauty and variety of recreational and lifestyle opportunities. Located along the entire western coast of Oregon this area encompasses several counties and a broad geographic area that spans a 12- hour drive from top to bottom. Getting to the coastal region from Metropolitan Portland can be as close as a 1 \u00bd hour drive to Tillamook or Canon Beach or as long as 7+ hours to get to Brookings beach.<\/p>\n

The coastal region is a vacation and residential paradise, it is made up of evergreen forests, picturesque coastal areas, rugged cliffs, sand dunes and vast sandy beaches all along the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, US Highway 101 (which starts in California as the famous Pacific Coast Highway.) Residents live in every type of community, from resort style communities with every possible amenity to quiet coastal towns where waves lap on the shoreline and seagulls fly overhead. There are many recreational opportunities from fishing, cycling, flying a kite on the beach, scuba diving, hiking through old-growth forests, windsurfing and surfing, beachcombing, whale and bird watching. There are also many coast attractions including aquariums, art galleries, theaters and museums.<\/p>\n

As a heavily visited vacation area there are a many hotels, motels, inns and bed and breakfasts to be found. Residential choices range from seaside condo\u2019s to quaint beachside cottages and quiet mountain homes. Dining along the coast offers great variety from the freshest local seafood to international cuisine. Local residents are friendly and helpful \u2013 enjoying a quality of life that is unrivaled in the state.<\/p>\n

Gearhart is home to just about 1,500 residents. Known for its small town atmosphere and contemporary restaurants, it is typical of many of the communities along the Oregon Coast. The community caters to the visitor or resident that enjoys a quieter slow pace of life. Many homes in the community are situated on the beach and have been in their owners families for generations. Gearhart Beach, located in town, is one of the few public beaches in Oregon where visitors are permitted to drive on the sand. Many people however, prefer to enjoy Gearhart’s scenic beauty by foot. Golfers have been coming to Gearhart since the late 1800s, and the small community continues its reputation today as a popular golfing destination, and home to the oldest golf course in the northwest. The town has two courses, both with breathtaking views and well-maintained properties. There are a number of state parks in the Gearhart-Seaside area that are worth visiting. Del Rey Beach (2 miles north of Gearhart), provides an unspoiled beach experience with relatively few amenities. Sunset Beach, a few miles further north, strives to recreate the views of the Lewis and Clark team when they traveled the 6.5 miles between Fort Clatsop and the Pacific Ocean. Local residents enjoy an enviable quality of life, amazing natural beauty and all the amenities that they need. Gearhart is a wonderful place to call home.
