One of Martin County\u2019s top employers, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, operates a major manufacturing plant at Stuart Airport. Handling public and private aircraft and defense contracts, the firm has contributed to the region’s economic base since 1950. Martin County also is a leader in eggs, producing more than 11 million dozen annually. Tens of thousands of acres of citrus, sugar cane, vegetables, and ornamental plants are also under cultivation throughout this rural county. \nAn excellent education system serves area youth, managed by a progressive school board. Parents can also take advantage of opportunities for a private education for their children in independent or parochial schools. Indian River Community College is a leader within Florida’s community college system, creating a nationally recognized “tech prep” program and providing customized training programs for local employers. The education system includes institutions of higher education that offer four-year and graduate degree programs. The public institution of Florida Atlantic University and the private Barry University are close to home, although a number of other institutions are available within a reasonable commute.<\/p>\n

Outstanding healthcare is provided by Martin Memorial Health Systems, providing advanced diagnostics and treatment to Martin County residents since 1939. From the original 23-bed hospital with 10 employees, the system has grown to encompass two hospitals staffed by nearly 3,000 associates and more than 400 physicians. Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in nearby Fort Pierce offers a 345-bed, acute-care facility serves as a regional referral center for the Treasure Coast area. The medical center’s obstetrics services are backed by a Level II Nursery and pediatric unit. Throughout the area, skilled professionals in every major specialty combine with specialty centers to meet every need.<\/p>\n

A charming village more than a century old, historic Jensen Beach is located along the scenic Indian River in the heart of Florida\u2019s Treasure Coast. With its healthy economic base, near-perfect climate, and breathtaking surroundings, Jensen Beach is considered an ideal place to live. Rising 85 feet above sea level, this community is the highest point of land on Florida\u2019s East Coast. Children attend school in either the Martin County or St. Lucie County school systems. Situated in the western section of Martin County, Palm City remains unincorporated in spite of its ability to attract thousands of new residents in recent years. Families, professionals, and retirees are lured to the area by the attractive master-planned communities and upscale condominiums\u2014many of which are located along the serene banks of the St. Lucie River. The site for many annual events in the County, Palm City is subtly transforming into a vital community within Martin County. One of Martin County\u2019s few incorporated communities, the town of Sewall\u2019s Point is known for its magnificent homes along the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers.
