ACADEMICS / PUBLIC EDUCATION

Registration Requirements
If your child is enrolling in a Nevada school for the first time, the items needed for registration will include proof of address in the form of a utility bill, rent receipt, mortgage papers, or a lease agreement. Driver’s licenses are not acceptable. If you are living with a friend or relative, you must bring a notarized statement signed by you and the owner/renter of the property where you are staying, indicating that it is your current place of residence. You will also need proof of the child’s identity in the form of a legal birth certificate, passport or baptismal certificate. No photo copies can be accepted.

Updated medical information includes physician-signed records indicating that your child has had, or at least has started, a series of immunizations against DPT, polio, measles, mumps and rubella in the prescribed intervals. The school your child will be attending will need to know about any previous placement in a special program or class and a recent report card or document that shows the name and address of the last school attended. Also helpful would be your child’s latest achievement test scores and complete information about any disability or health problems.

Bus service is provided to all students who live more than two miles from their schools, and hot lunches are available for purchase at all schools. Starting and ending times for the school day can vary. Some of the school districts in this area follow a year-round schedule instead of closing over the summer months. For details on schedules, contact your local school administration. If you are unsure about the school your child will be attending, contact:

Charter Schools
Several charter schools are available in the Las Vegas area, defined as public, tuition-free schools that operate autonomously from select state and local rules in exchange for accountability on the basis of student performance. Charter schools operate under approved charters or contracts that specify the educational program and the student outcomes for which the schools will be accountable.
