Woodland Park is a city in Teller County, Colorado and is located just 18 miles from Colorado Springs. The city is home to just under 8,000 residents. It is located at 8,465 feet above sea level on the northern slope of Pikes Peak and is surrounded by the Pike National Forest and its more than one million acres of pristine forest. This idyllic location speaks for the name most often used to describe the community as “The City above the Clouds.” Woodland park has a climate to match its stunning natural beauty with more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

Woodland Park is a growing and vibrant community with a healthy economy based on a strong tourism industry – driven by the cities location and the natural wonders that surround it. The natural surroundings include unparalleled views of Pikes Peak and the Rampart Range, thick stands of spruce, pine and aspen. Outdoor enthusiasts use Woodland Park as their launch point for untold adventures. From Woodland park visitors and residents can quickly explore the world famous mining towns of Victor and Cripple Creek, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Mueller State Park & Wildlife Area, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, the Olympic Training Center and more than one million acres of national forest land. Fisherman can spend a day at Manitou Lake, just a few miles north of the city or Rampart Range Reservoir awaits just a short distance away. For those who want to expend a little more energy hiking and biking in the area is a very popular pastime, with endless miles of trails through the scenic landscape. Camping opportunities are vast, with a large selection of campgrounds, cabins, RV parks and rustic lodges available to satisfy every outdoor adventure. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy 18 holes at one of the local golf courses – all with mountain views and clear blue skies overhead. When the weather turns cold, winter sports such as skiing and even ice fishing help to make this a year round recreational paradise.

The local parks and recreation department also maintain a variety of public parks and leisure facilities. There are 25 acres of improved parks including Memorial Park, Meadow Wood Park, Bergstrom Park, and the Lion’s Park. These have playgrounds and multi-use facilities and can be used for picnicking, fishing, ice skating, softball, and even to host special events.

Besides the recreation and scenic beauty, Woodland Park is also home to thousands of residents who live and work in the area. For them the community offers a high quality of life. They have access to all of the facilities and services that they could need. Many Woodland Park residents make the short 18 mile daily commute to work in Colorado Springs.
