Panoramic Hocking County is located in southeastern Ohio approximately 50 miles south of Columbus. The county is considered to be a part of the greater metropolitan Columbus region and is known throughout the state for its breathtaking scenery and tourism. The Hocking River flows through the county, which derives its name from that scenic natural feature.

Newcomers to Hocking County will discover a beautiful rural region beyond the bustle of metropolitan Columbus that offers a combination of country serenity and first-rate services. In addition to quality schools on every academic level, the county provides easy access to higher education and career training programs at Hocking College and the Tri-County Vocational School in Nelsonville. Hocking College is distinguished as Ohio’s largest two-year college and enjoys an international reputation for its innovative work-learn programs and partners closely with many local employers. At the same time, the college offers 40 different degree programs including one of the only two-year ceramics engineering programs in the nation, and flexible options for traditional and non-traditional students to earn valuable associate degrees. Students of Hocking College enjoy an expansive 1,400-acre “campus as a park” environment. Approximately an hour’s drive from Hocking County are a number of major colleges and universities that include Ohio State University and Capitol University in Columbus. Ohio University in Athens and the Lancaster Campus of Ohio University in Lancaster are only 30 minutes from home.
Responsive, quality healthcare is anchored by Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan. The professionally produced outdoor drama, Tecumseh, is another regional favorite that was written by a seven-time Pulitzer Price nominee and Emmy recipient, Allan W. Eckert. Established one mile below the great falls of the Hocking River, the leading city of Logan also developed around a branch of the Ohio Canal. Logan offers a small but vibrant hometown in the Hocking Hills region of southeast Ohio, a charming community with a progressive attitude. Providing an outstanding education to area youth, the local school system plays an important role in the community and continues to expand to accommodate the brisk rate of growth in and surrounding Logan. The cultural jewels of Fairfield County are primarily located in Logan, providing a full calendar of programming and activities. The city also serves as the healthcare hub for Fairfield County, home to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital. Hocking County Townships
Besides the cities, villages and towns within Hocking County, 11 rural townships comprise a large part of the area. These townships range from smaller rural communities with a few hundred residents to more than several thousand people such as the 11,000+ residents of Falls Township. The townships are spread throughout the region and are generally comprised of farm, rural and residential land.
