Chesapeake Maritime Museum

Exhibits trace the history of the Bay and its traditions in boat building, commercial seafood harvesting, yachting, waterfowling and navigation. Major features include a 100-year-old lighthouse, restored log bottom bugeye, skipjack and racing log canoe.

Headquarters of the Dorchester Historical Society, this 1760 Georgian home exhibits artifacts from the six Maryland governors born within the county. The museum features an extensive collection of agricultural and industrial artifacts as well as formal and herb gardens.

St. Mary’s Square and Museum

Treasures include a ship’s carpenter bell cast in 1841 and cannon used to defend the town. The main building was named “Teetotum” for its resemblance to a toy top (circa 1860). The Museum of Costume displays historical fashions.
