Fort Worth is often referred to as “the city where the west begins,” and is the fifth-largest city in Texas and the 17th largest city in the nation. It is home to more than 700,000 residents. Higher education in Fort Worth is well represented with more than 120,000 students attending more than seven major institutions. Those institutions include Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan, University of Texas Arlington, University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University and others.

State-of-the-art healthcare services are available in nationally acclaimed hospitals and medical centers throughout the region, anchored by some of the nation’s most highly respected health systems. Major teaching hospitals, research centers, community hospitals, specialized care centers, long-term care, rehabilitation, family practice clinics, walk-in and emergency care, skilled nursing, hospice, and home health are some of the elements of the comprehensive healthcare network. Cook Children’s Medical Center is one of the largest, independent pediatric referral centers in the nation. Harris Methodist Fort Worth has been recognized as a healthcare leader in north central Texas for more than 60 years. Huguley Memorial Medical Center located on the outskirts of Fort Worth is a regional facility where hundreds of physicians practice more than 30 specialties. John Peter Smith Hospital, part of the JPS Health Network, selected Fort Worth as the site of its main campus.
