Home of the Crawfish Festival, the small town of Woodbine was incorporated in 1908 and enjoyed rapid expansion in its early years. By 1923, the county seat had shifted from St. Marys to Woodbine for its accessibility. The community became the City of Woodbine in 1953 and is still the site of the County Courthouse. Today, Woodbine is characterized as a quiet, small town where many vintage homes and older commercial structures are still in use. Originally the Woodbine Plantation, the area was named for a red flowering vine that was plentiful in the area. Residents enjoy an idyllic location in a community that nestles on the banks of the St. Illa River, which is known today as the Satilla. Serene residential neighborhoods, regional recreational amenities, and easy access to major cosmopolitan attractions in Jacksonville ensure a high quality of life.
