Long Island’s economy stands out in several ways. It has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, one of the highest per capita incomes in the nation and some of the best recreational areas in the Eastern part of the country. Long Island is also prosperous, with a high median household income level that is 25% higher than the national average.
Following several decades of aviation leadership with companies like Grumman, Long Island is emerging as a hub for the computer industry. The Hauppauge Industrial Park is one of the largest on the East Coast and home to more than 1,300 companies.
