Located on the southern edge of the Panhandle in the Texas South Plains, rural Lamb County is only 40 miles from metropolitan Lubbock and 30 miles from Levelland. Covering 1,022 square miles of level plains dotted with playas and a few low hills, this region features several small lakes that dot the western half of the county. Rich soils have contributed to a strongly agricultural character. Today’s economic vitality is based on a combination of farming and ranching operations, related agribusiness, energy production, local business, a growing industrial sector, retail activity, and services including healthcare.

Major thoroughfares that serve the area include U.S. Highways 70, 84, and 385. Littlefield Municipal Airport is available for general aviation with the nearest commercial airline service in nearby Lubbock at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport. Although Littlefield serves as the hub city for healthcare, commerce, and entertainment, other small towns dot the rural landscape including Amherst, Earth, Olton, Sudan, and Springlake.
