Voter Registration Information
Maine has been a leader across the nation, with some of the highest voter participation in the presidential elections of the recent past. Any U.S. citizen who will be at least 18 years of age prior to the general election can be eligible for voter registration. Applications can be completed at age 17 as long as the actual voting age is at least 18. Registration is free and permanent. Re-registration is only necessary if you change your name, your address, or your political party.

Residents of Maine can register to vote in their town office, through any Motor Vehicle branch office, during voter registration drives, or at most state/federal social service agencies. Completed voter registration cards may be hand-delivered or mailed to the town office or the Secretary of State. Application information includes name, birthplace, birth date, mailing address, telephone number, place of previous registration, and social
