Taking for its slogan “between the land of enchantment and a whole other country,” Andrews County is part of the sprawling Midland-Odessa Combined Statistical Area. Well-served by major thoroughfares US Highway 385 and State Highways 115 and 176, the county is less than 40 miles from Midland International Airport. The majority of the population resides in or near the City of Andrews, recognized in recent years as one of the fastest-growing micropolitan centers in Texas.

Services
Newcomers will be impressed by the caliber of educational opportunities available in Andrews County and the Midland/Odessa region. Andrews Independent School District points to a legacy of excellence, including holding the record for the most University Interscholastic League titles—a distinction that recognizes both athletics and academics. More than 70 percent of the students participate in extra-curricular activities, supported by ambitious projects like the 1,000-seat performance center with concert-quality acoustic auditorium, a 2,000-seat gymnasium, and a first-class natatorium. Strong community backing enables the district to continually upgrade, improve, renovate, and build outstanding facilities for a growing population. Secondary students are issued laptop computers, while elementary/middle school students can check out iPad tablets. Completed in 2006, the Andrews Business and Technology Center was established in partnership with Odessa College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin to create a hub for technological education and distance learning. Andrews County residents enjoy close proximity to the two-year institutions of Midland College and Odessa College, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

State-of-the-art healthcare services are a hallmark of the Midland/Odessa region, although Andrews County residents meet most needs close to home. The Permian Regional Medical Center serves an 18-county population in West Texas and eastern New Mexico with a continuum of quality care. PRMC encompasses an acute-care hospital, a long-term care facility, a senior living campus, a rural health clinic, a home health agency, mobile medical services, and physician clinics. PRMC offers a full-service lab, advanced imaging, nuclear medicine, a medical/surgical unit, an obstetrics/labor and delivery unit, critical care and intensive care departments, and a Level IV trauma designated emergency department. For added patient convenience, PRMC has opened an Express Care clinic with 24-hour staffing as an alternative to emergency room visits. Should the need arise for advanced care, Medical Center Hospital in Odessa serves a 17-county region as a teaching hospital and healthcare system, while the multi-facility complex of Midland Memorial Hospital excels in innovative programs recognized for clinical excellence.

Lifestyle
Newcomers to Andrews County can look forward to an attractive selection of home styles and settings, a lively community spirit, and a sunny climate that favors year-round outdoor enjoyment. Golfers will appreciate the challenging course at Andrews Country Club, home to native son and PGA golf professional Chad Campbell. The Senior Activity Center and the County Youth Recreation Center meet the recreational needs of every age group, providing opportunities to engage in baseball, basketball, football, cheerleading, tennis, volleyball, softball, and soccer. Adult sports leagues and recreational events take advantage of acres of public parkland that offer athletic fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and picnic areas with grills. Strolling along the Andrews Bird Viewing Trail, fishing at City Lake, attending events at Andrews County Expo Arena, or backyard gardening are all popular pastimes. The new SplashPark is already a family favorite, drawing as many as 36,000 participants in a single season. For spectator sports thrills, the Midland/Odessa region features collegiate competition and several professional teams.

Cultural enrichment is one of the community benefits of an outstanding public school system that provides venues and outlets for creative expression through drama, music and arts programs. Local organizations frequently sponsor cultural activities and events like the Andrews Art Guild Show or family-oriented theater productions. Andrews County is also home to talented artisans who work in a variety of mediums. Crowd-pleasing events draw friends, neighbors, and visitors together for the Andrews County Junior Livestock Show, Andrews Bluegrass Festivals, and the Annual Arts and Crafts Show. An entire world of cultural enrichment is available in the Midland/Odessa region, including symphony, choral groups, opera, ballet, professional theater, big-name concerts, and Broadway shows. Many of these events are showcased at the stunning Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center on the University of Texas campus in Odessa. For the best of all worlds, few choices in West Texas can rival the warm, friendly, rapidly growing community of Andrews County.
