TRANSPORTATION / MOTOR VEHICLE INFORMATION

Driver License
As soon as state residency is established, a new resident is required to obtain an Arizona driver license. No grace period applies. Visit the nearest licensing office and bring all pertinent documents, including legal proof of age and identity. Newcomers must pass the vision test, although the written test and practical road test are usually waived. Alert the Motor Vehicle Division attendant that you hold a valid out-of-state license to expedite service and avoid delays for testing. License fees will depend upon your age. For your convenience, you may also complete an Arizona voter registration form at the MVD office.

Vehicle Registration
Newcomers are required to register and title all vehicles in Arizona. In addition to a nominal registration fee, you must pay Arizona motor vehicle taxes. This tax takes the place of a personal property tax on automobiles. Arizona requires obtain proof of vehicle insurance in state-specified minimums. Other required documents include your driver license, your social security card or other form of signature ID, and current vehicle registration. You will also have to provide proof of age if applicable and bring the current vehicle title along with any lien release papers.
