DEMOGRAPHICS / CLIMATE

The Oregon climate zone known as the Willamette Valley — which encompasses the three largest cities of Portland, Salem, and Eugene — is also the most diversified agricultural region. Productive ranches, orchards, and farms surround bustling urban centers. The Mediterranean climate remains relatively mild throughout the year, with cool/wet winters and warm/dry summers. Typically, half the year’s rainfall and the heaviest clouds occur in the winter months from December through February. Extreme temperatures are rare and snowfall tends to be low, averaging 5-10 inches annually. As would be expected, the elevation has a significant effect on precipitation levels.
