Nestled in the heart of West Texas ranching country between the southeast hills and the northwest rolling plains, Tom Green County enjoys a centralized location in the Lone Star State. Covering 1,540 square miles, the county is home to the vibrant, well-developed City of San Angelo as well as Goodfellow Air Force Base. Located between Interstates 10 and 20, the area is served by US Highways 67, 87 and 277. The San Angelo Regional Airport provides commercial flights to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport for regional, national and worldwide travel.

Located in the community of San Angelo, Goodfellow Air Force Base is home to the 17th Training Wing including groups, squadrons, specialized staff agencies and separate tenant units that produce some of the most well-trained service people in the world. Military personnel and their families enjoy access to the quality resources and attractions within San Angelo, including historic Fort Concho, parks and lakes, and exceptional cultural venues. Park University operates a base campus, but Angelo State University also provides scholarships to active-duty military for zero-cost higher education opportunities. Marked by extensive growth and modern development, extensive base resources include new training facilities, a medical clinic, dining halls, dormitories, recreational and entertainment facilities, Lakeside Recreation Center at Lake Nasworthy, Goodfellow AFB Library, and the Crossroads Chapel fellowship center.
