As one of Missouri’s more sparsely populated areas, rapidly growing Lincoln County focuses its commercial and industrial development in the county seat and major city of Troy. Nearly 8,000 residents call Troy home, which is a significant percentage of the county’s total population. Troy claims a long and rich history as the hub of the region and the location of the county government offices. In fact, the city had its genesis as long ago as 1819 and celebrated its 185th anniversary in 2004.

Modern Troy is a community known for its natural warmth, beautiful homes, outstanding schools, recreational facilities, and thriving economic development. Troy is experiencing such phenomenal growth in all sectors that the chamber of commerce touts the area as “Troy on the Move.” While the region continues to welcome quality residential villages and elegant country manors to the pristine hillsides, civic planners and local residents are determined to preserve and enhance the high quality of life that makes Troy and Lincoln County so appealing.

The community spirit and the sense of cooperative effort is strong. In the newest of the parks, residents are “greening” the grounds by donating trees and bushes in memory of their loved ones. Avery Park was named for Omer and Elizabeth Avery, who donated the land and providing funding for the city to develop a family playground, picnic areas with barbecue grills, and a hard-surfaced walking trail lined with park benches and shaded by grand trees.
