Just 40 miles southwest of Toledo, Henry County exemplifies the slogan, “Small town living, big city opportunities.” Named for the famous orator Patrick Henry, the area’s proud history shines brightly in the striking beautify of the historic courthouse, an architectural jewel dating back to 1882 that serves as a focal point for community events. Services
From first-rate public school districts to opportunities for a private education, families will appreciate the caliber of education available in Henry County. Just outside of Ridgeville in the town of Archbold, Northwest State Community College provides exemplary post-secondary education with two-year degree and career programs. NSCC provides training programs for local business, complemented by the supportive work of the Ohio State University Extension in Napoleon. Other public and private institutions of higher education that are available within a reasonable commute include the University of Toledo, a comprehensive public research institution that includes a main campus as well as a Health Sciences campus. The university’s undergraduate engineering and business programs are consistently ranked among the finest in the nation by US News & World Report, along with many other programs such as nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, law, and education. Nearby Sylvania is home to Lourdes University, a private college that is consistently recognized as a “Best in the Midwest” college by the Princeton Review. Toledo is also home to the main campus for Owens Community College.
Napoleon is also home to Henry County Hospital, which offers a wide range of primary, acute, and rehabilitative services close to home. If the need for advanced or highly specialty care arises, Mercy Children’s Hospital, Toledo Children’s Hospital, the University of Toledo Medical Center, and Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center are close to home. The University of Toledo Medical Center consistently earns accolades in US News and World Report for high performance in seven clinical specialties and maintains the area’s only accredited primary stroke center. Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center is another distinguished regional referral and teaching center, holding the highest designation for treating high-risk mothers and infants and home to the region’s only Burn Care and Reconstructive Center. Henry County is well-served by the State Routes 108, 18 and 281, providing links to major regional thoroughfares.

The county seat of Napoleon also serves as a hub of social activity, drawing residents and visitors to concerts, lively festivals, colorful parades, and seasonal or holiday special events. Among the other wildly popular events in the county is the Hamler Summerfest each July in Hamler. The Bavarian Haus along State Route 18 in Dreshler is famous for bringing in nationally known Polka bands and hosting the annual Schuetzenfest. The powerful presence of nearby Lucas County ensures that world-class attractions are only minutes from home, including the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, the Art Tatum Jazz Society, the Toledo Opera, the Toledo Ballet, the Toledo Repertoire Theatre, Broadway shows, and star-studded entertainment.
