As a center of rapid growth and development, Prince George’s County is a study in contrasts. This region not only harmonizes the rural with the urban, it blends the nation’s past with a progressive future. More historic mansions are located in Prince William’s County than can be found in Colonial Williamsburg, yet the area is home to the state-of-the-art technology found at Goddard Space Flight Center and Andrews Air Force Base.

Bordering Washington, DC, Prince George’s County is considered a suburb of the nation’s capital. Although the county is one of Maryland’s most densely populated urban centers, many communities still feature space for farming and horse breeding. A progressive infrastructure provides an excellent network of highways that allow easy access to Baltimore, New York and Boston as well as the nation’s capital. Metrobus, Metrorail and MARC rapid transit system provide the area with outstanding service.

Services
As evidenced in the county’s budget, education is a top priority. The public system is ranked among the nation’s top 20 in size and is consistently recognized for its innovative educational programs. Outstanding healthcare is available to residents in a variety of area hospitals, while a number of community health centers provide a wide range of medical services. Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly is an acute-care teaching hospital, regional referral center, and designated regional trauma center for southern Maryland. Also offering comprehensive medical and surgical specialties is Laurel Regional Hospital, serving northern Prince George’s County as well as residents of Montgomery, Howard, and Anne Arundel counties. Prince George’s County award winning park system operates 250 parks on more than 15,000 acres. The county sponsors summer playground programs, teen programs and more than 2,500 organized sports teams. Four regional parks provide a wide range of outdoor recreational facilities.

Situated on the Patuxent and Potomac Rivers, Prince George’s County is ideal for boating and water sports of every kind. The excitement and action of professional sports is available as well. In addition to the close proximity of professional sports excitement in both Washington, DC and Baltimore, this area hosts exciting collegiate competition as well as tennis and boxing matches.
