TAX & LICENSE / VOTER RESOURCES

Voter Registration
South Carolina offers a progressive voting system that requires newcomers to register at least 30 days prior to the election. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen in good standing, a resident of South Carolina in the county and precinct in which you intend to vote, and at least 18 years of age before the next election. You may complete a voter registration form and return it to your county offices, complete the form at the motor vehicle office, or visit your county board of voter registration in person.

At the voting booth, must present your voter registration certificate, a valid South Carolina driver’s license, or a South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles issued photo identification card. Residents who were not qualified to vote in the first election for failure to register 30 days prior to an election are not qualified to vote in that election’s subsequent run-off. If physical handicap or age keeps a voter from entering a polling place, he or she may vote outside that polling place in the closest available parking area utilizing the vehicle in which he has driven or has been driven to the polls.
