One million fans flock to Concord each year to catch the highs-speed action, which essentially doubles the county’s population on race weekends. Other racing venues, collegiate sport action, and even high-school sports play a major role in the county’s spirit and vitality. Golfers can choose from a number of velvet greens scattered throughout the area, tennis fans will find well-kept courts, and those who prefer active team play will find leagues and teams for all ages. Community parks, swimming pools, multi-purpose trails, lakefront recreation, waterslides, miniature golf, batting cages, go-kart racing, hobby and sports clubs, and YMCA facilities and activities are all available.

Cabarrus County is preserving its unique heritage and character in such charming sites as Historic Downtown Concord, the Cabarrus County Courthouse, Reed Gold Mine, Memorial Garden, Eastern Cabarrus Museum, and rows of elegant Victorian homes. The economic power of the Kannapolis community had its genesis with the textile factory of Cannon Mills in 1906. Owner James W. Cannon wanted to build a community around the new facility to provide housing for factory workers. Loosely translated from its Greek origin, the name Kannapolis means City of Looms. Today, one of the Cannon operations is still a major regional employer and continues to refine its methods and automate its facilities in the production of home fashions. Warm and friendly neighbors, affordable and attractive housing, quality schools, and small-town charm are factors in the attraction to Kannapolis. This family-friendly environment is filled with parks and greenways, sparkling lakes, a dynamic business and retail community, charming historic districts, and upscale neighborhoods that are rich in amenities. Festivals, sporting events, an active YMCA, and charming Cannon Village shopping are just a few of the advantages. Residents and planners share a commitment to controlled growth where new neighborhoods and new businesses are seamlessly integrated to preserve the high quality of life.
