Although the rapidly growing county seat of Statesville remains the largest town in Iredell County, the community of Mooresville near scenic Lake Norman is experiencing phenomenal development. Although the county is home to sprawling dairy farms and flourishing industries from textiles to electronics, Mooresville also calls itself “Racing City USA” for its NASCAR teams and related companies. Both private and public colleges and universities are available within a reasonable commuting distance of Iredell County, including Davidson College, Catawba College, Queens College the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Johnson C. The commitment to quality healthcare delivery is evident in the caliber of professionals who practice throughout Iredell County and the vast resources available at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Serving the needs of residents of Iredell County and surrounding areas since 1920, the medical center has opened a new facility that features state-of-the-art technology and many unique services from diabetes care to a pain management center. Also in Statesville, Iredell Memorial Hospital is distinguished as the county’s only locally owned not-for-profit hospital. Founded in 1952, the hospital has more than doubled in size and capacity over the decades to fulfill its mission of leadership in advanced diagnostics and treatment as well as preventive healthcare.

One of the natural treasures of panoramic Iredell County is Lake Norman, one of the region’s most popular recreational sites as well as the centerpiece of vibrant new residential development. Home to less than 3,000 residents, the small Town of Troutman is nestled in the southern end of Iredell County just five miles from the county seat of Statesville. Because of the town’s ideal location, residents are able to enjoy the close community spirit of neighbors who know and help each other without sacrificing urban amenities and advantages. Minutes from home in Troutman are two major hospitals, a community college campus, regional museums, historic district shopping, and popular entertainment venues. Even the bright lights of Charlotte are only 30 miles from Troutman. Professional sports, the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, world-class cultural attractions, NASCAR racing, and superb recreational areas are all available within a reasonable commute. Lake Norman is nearby for virtually unlimited access to water sports, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and relaxing in natural beauty. Troutman is less than two miles from the Lake Norman State Park, in the northeast corner of the lake.
