Distinguished as Michigan’s fourth largest county, Genesee County claims a name that means “beautiful valley.” A hotbed of activity for General Motors, the Flint metropolitan area sprawls to encompass about half of the county’s villages and cities. The county preserves much of its historic charm in the turn-of-the-century buildings that grace tree-lined streets of smaller towns like Flushing, Fenton, Linden, and Gaines. At the same time, Flint is a region filled with outstanding educational, cultural, and recreational resources.

Services
The strong network of public and private schools combines with an outstanding selection of colleges and universities. With four leading colleges and universities available within a 2.5-mile radius, Flint has emerged as a center for higher education. Included are the University of Michigan-Flint, Kettering University, Mott Community College, and Baker College. Grants, expansions, and renovations continue to improve education from K-12 through graduate study and professional training throughout Genesee County.

Leading healthcare systems, hospitals, and medical centers feature specialized programs that meet every need, from the Women’s Center at McLaren Hospital to the nationally acclaimed Center for Reproductive Medicine at Hurley Medical Center. Genesys Regional Medical Center is one of only a few hospitals in the United States using brain pacemakers and other revolutionary procedures. Throughout the region, skilled professionals represent every major specialty and most subspecialties to ensure quality care, advanced diagnostics, and state-of-the-art treatment close to home.

Lifestyle
Dedication to the arts is evident in premier attractions like the Flint Cultural Center with its Longway Planetarium, Flint Youth Theater, and Bower Theater. The 30-acre Flint Cultural Center is home to nine institutions that entertain and educate more than 600,000 visitors a year. Nationally recognized venues abound, including the Flint Institute of Arts, Sloan Museum, and Whiting Auditorium with its premier Showcase Series.

New housing starts in Genesee County lead the state, taking advantage of scenic townships that welcome handsome new subdivisions. The close proximity of Interstates 75 and 69 as well as Bishop International Airport add to the convenience of commuting and daily living. Genesee County Parks is not only one of the nation’s largest systems but includes the Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad — ranked among Michigan’s top attractions. Events like the Buick Open and the Crim Festival of Races are internationally recognized.

Also nestled in Genesee County is the upscale yet architecturally rich community of Grand Blanc. Located just a short distance from Flint and 60 miles north of Detroit in the gently rolling hills of what was once a dense hardwood forest, the Grand Blanc community boats a futuristic, innovative approach to development. The result is an area that offers top-rated public, parochial and private schools as well as aesthetically pleasing neighborhoods filled with distinctive homes, townhouses, and condominiums.

Residents of Genesee County enjoy a centralized location and efficient transportation network, ensuring access to entertainment, recreational, and educational activities. Lakes, streams, rivers, and deep woods provide a kaleidoscope of outdoor adventure and weekend getaways. From its vibrant urban centers to quaint villages and open countryside, Genesee County offers a high quality of life based on economic renewal and commitment to excellence.
