Public School Requirements
To be eligible to start kindergarten, a student must be five years of age by December 31. (Some counties use January 1 as the eligibility date. Consult your local school administration for verification.)

To enroll a student in the public school system, bring: Birth certificate, Report card and transcripts from previous school, Proof of immunizations

Special Education
Federal law requires free education for all handicapped children between the ages of 2 and 22. Mandated state programs include supplemental reading programs for economically disadvantaged children, school food service and adult vocational education.
