Anderson County is one of the most diverse counties in Tennessee. Comprised of five incorporated municipalities and several other communities. It is home to more than 70,000 residents. Residents enjoy a broad selection of communities, from lakefront and riverside living to small rural towns and small cities to farmland and mountain communities. The area is rich in history and tradition from America’s early days in Appalachia to world renowned research in the areas of science, energy, research, and development. Anderson County has a thriving tourism industry, thanks to major attractions such as Norris Lake, the Museum of Appalachia, and American Museum of Science and Energy, and the county is considered a part of the Norris Highlands.

The county offers residents a broad selection of outdoor activities, like waterskiing, fishing, bicycling, horseback riding, camping, ATVs, hunting and so much more. There are many options for enjoying everything the region offers. Residents don’t lack for opportunities to enjoy themselves – all close to home.  In addition to the great natural resources in the area, an hour’s drive takes locals to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Big South Fork National River & Recreational Area. Knoxville is also just a short 20 minute trip from home.  The region offers a moderate climate throughout the year. With four distinct seasons meaning that locals enjoy outdoor recreation and other activities year round. Spring brings the dogwoods and azaleas and the beginning of many outdoor festivals. Residents of the county enjoy a full slate of educational opportunities for every age. K-12 education is handled by the Anderson County Schools district, the Clinton City Schools and Oak Ridge Schools. Each offering a broad range of educational options to their students. Independent schools in the area include the Montessori School of Oak Ridge (preschool and kindergarten founded in 1977), St. Mary’s School (Roman Catholic, pre-kindergarten through grade 8), and several preschools. The Oak Ridge Institute for Continued Learning offers a diverse array of educational opportunities for adults. The Oak Ridge school district was ranked number one in the state of Tennessee, and Oak Ridge High School was ranked the number three high school in the state of Tennessee, in the Niche 2017 Best School Districts. For those looking for higher or continuing education, Anderson County has a variety of educational options to choose from. Including a Vocational Center, Roane State Community College, Pellissippi State Community College, or the University of Tennessee.

Healthcare options are well represented in the county with the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge being one of the top hospitals in the Knoxville Metro Area, Anderson County’s Methodist Medical Center is a 301 bed medical facility located in Oak Ridge with over 175 physicians and 30 medical or surgical specialties. Residents of Anderson County have many options of quality healthcare to choose from whether in Oak Ridge or in nearby Knoxville.

Roane County was founded on November 6, 1801.  Roane County is 361 square miles and is home to over 51,900. The City of Kingston is the county seat.

Outdoor activities and water based action is the key to Roane County where you can boat, swim, sail, paddle, float or fish your way across 39,000 acres of sparkling blue Watts Bar Lake, one of the south’s great fishing spots and one of the largest lakes in the southeastern U.S.. Resident’s hike or bike the ridges and forests and camp alongside scenic views of the lake. Its popular for locals to picnic in a downtown or lakeside park, play a round of disc golf, splash in the water or be part of the fun at a concert or one of the annual festivals that take place. Resdients have high quality health care close to home with the Roane Medical Center. This state-of-the-art facility, that was completed in 2013 is licensed for 54 private patient beds, is equipped with modern technologies and expert staff. The facility continues to grow and add advanced technology, all while sharing best practices within its health system, Knoxville-based Covenant Health.

Born in war and rich in natural beauty, Oak Ridge is the “Secret City” with a big story to tell.  The City of Oak Ridge was incorporated in 1962 and its population and is home to more than 29,000. The largest portion of the City of Oak Ridge is located in Anderson County, with a smaller portion located in Roane County. Oak Ridge was established by the Federal Government, Oak Ridge was established in 1942 as a production site for the Manhattan Project—the massive American, British, and Canadian operation that developed the atomic bomb.  The federal government projects at Oak Ridge today are not of the same size and scope, but are still the city’s principal economic activity and one of the biggest employers in the Knoxville metropolitan area. The Department of Energy owns the federal sites and maintains a major office in the city. Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest multipurpose lab in the Department of Energy’s National Laboratory system. It is home to the Spallation Neutron Source, a 1.4 billion dollar project completed in 2006, and “Titan”, one of the world’s most powerful scientific supercomputers, which has peak performance of more than one quadrillion operations per second.
