Loudon County is located just 30 miles from Knoxville, and it is home to just over 49,000 residents. Its county seat is Loudon, and it is included in the Knoxville Metropolitan Area.

Lifestyle
With the stunning background of the Great Smoky Mountains and an array of lakes and rivers dotting the landscape, the county has long been called the “Lakeway to the Smokies.” Water activities are plentiful in the county where the Little Tennessee River and the Tennessee River meet. Spectacular boating, canoeing, fishing, and water skiing can be found on Fort Loudoun, Tellico, Watts Bar and Melton Hill Lakes. Loudon County is known as one of the best fishing counties in Tennessee. The county is also home to several scenic parks that offer wonderful areas to hike, bike or simply relax. There are several golf courses in the area as well.  The Great Smoky Mountains are nearby and offer miles of trails, hunting camping and other outdoor adventures. The great outdoors is the hallmark of this region and residents take full advantage of it.  History is a big part of the county, and the entire area was inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years while Fort Loudoun dates back to the colonial era. The National Campground site in Greenback, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is just one of several Civil War Trail sites in Loudon County while Sequoya Birthplace Museum tells the story of a remarkable Cherokee Indian named Sequoya who created the Cherokee system of writing. The communities that make up the county are small, quiet, and exactly what most people would want in a rural area. Throughout the county residents can find quaint restaurants, numerous shopping opportunities and charming and historic downtown areas. There are annual community festivals and seasonal events that draw thousands from the region together.

Services
The public schools in all areas of the county except Lenoir City are operated by Loudon County Schools. The Loudon County School System is made up of nine schools that are quite diverse in their grade arrangement that serve 5,000 students. Eaton Elementary School is a PK-grade 4 school located on the north end of the county serving approximately 760 students.  Eaton students graduate to North Middle, which is located on the same campus. Highland Park Elementary is also located on the north end of the county and also serves about 400 PK- grade 4 students. Highland Park students feed into North Middle School. North Middle serves around 775 students. North Middle students attend Lenoir City High School which is in a neighboring school district within the county. Loudon Elementary serves 490 students in grades PK-grade 5 and transition to Fort Loudon Middle. Just one mile from those two schools, Steekee Elementary serves 274 PK-grade 5 students.  They also move up to Fort Loudon Middle. Fort Loudon Middle serves 340 students who move up to Loudon High School. Philadelphia School serves 600 students in a PK- grade 8 setting. Philadelphia students also graduate to attend Loudon High School. Loudon High School serves approximately 800 students in grades 9-12. Greenback School serves PK-12 with 665 students. The school district continually ranks in the top 10 percent of the districts in the state.  For those seeking higher education, there are a number of colleges and universities that serve the area, a few of which are: the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Maryville College, and Pellissippi State Technological Community College. There is also a selection of online and distance learning options.

Healthcare is well represented in the county with several clinics and doctors throughout the area. Fort Loudon Medical Center serves residents and is equipped with the modern equipment and staffed by a competent medical staff of professionals. It serves not only Loudon County but other nearby counties as well.

The rural town of Greenback is home to many farms and is in an ideal location on the Tennessee river/Tellico Reservoir. The city is home to just over 1200 lucky residents. It is a hidden gem in the region with pristine and abundant access to amazing and nearly untouched mountain biking, trail running and hiking trails. The town hosts year-round events and seasonal celebrations and is developing a strong historical society to honor its long history. The town is close to state parks and open space lands, meaning that residents don’t have to go far to enjoy the great outdoors. Its close proximity to the larger cities in the county and Knoxville means that residents don’t have to go far from home to find whatever they may need.

Lenoir City is a growing community located on the banks of Fort Loudon Reservoir and near the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Its home to just over 10,000 residents. It’s in an ideal location in close proximity to the lake, the mountains, and its larger neighboring cities. Residents who want to live in a quiet community but need to commute to work will find this to be the best of both worlds. The lake and outdoor activities dominate the lifestyle here. Whether is golfing on a sunny day or hiking in the mountains, or boating residents enjoy the outdoors.  The town has three parks located on the shores of the Lake. Water sports on Fort Loudoun Lake and the Tennessee River, which flow through the town, include boating, camping, swimming, picnicking, fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and sculling. For those not looking to play on the lake, the mountains are nearby and offer an amazing opportunity to explore nature at its finest. Residents also enjoy several annual festivals that draw in people from all over the region. The community has a bustling main street in its historic downtown with locally owned shops and eateries. Housing choices are broad featuring everything from older homes on large plots of land to large and luxurious homes right on the banks of the lake. Residents have easy access to everything they need to close to home or for more urban needs the big city amenities of Knoxville are not far away.

Loudon is the county seat of Loudon county and home to more than 6,000 residents.  Historic Loudon is a quiet town along the Tennessee River with an easy-to-walk downtown filled with quaint shops and great food choices. Loudon is home to a historic downtown complete with courthouse and square. The community is home to residents that enjoy a high quality of life that is dominated by outdoor recreation and the water. As with most of the county – the lakes and river dominate the area. Loudon attracts new residents, thanks in large part to the community boasting good education, employment opportunities and a great housing selection, all in a natural setting of forests, hills, and lakes. Loudon also boast a variety of parks that feature sports fields, walking trails, disc golf, basketball and tennis courts, volleyball courts, playgrounds, splash pad, pools, and much more. The community is home to several annual festivals that draw people from around the region. Residents have everything they need close to home.

Tellico Village

Tellico Village is an unincorporated master planned adult community, and census-designated place on the western shore of Tellico Reservoir in Loudon County.  It is located about 30 miles southwest of Knoxville. Its home to just over 5,600 residents. Tellico Village is a planned retirement community. Tellico Village is an active adult community situated along Tellico Lake. Established in 1987, it has become one of the best retirement communities in the southeast. The community is conveniently located with easy access to nationally recognized healthcare providers and major shopping venues in nearby Knoxville. In addition, this location provides residents with a wide range of cultural, educational, and entertainment resources. The community provides it residents with a wide range of amenities including championship golf, park and trails as well as a fully staffed community center that serves as the central point of the community.  Tellico Village is situated just minutes away from two major interstate highways – I-75 and I-40 – giving residents quick access to all of the region’s major attractions.
