Both Los Angeles International Airport and Burbank Airport are less than an hour’s drive from home. METROLINK offers commuter rail service twice daily from Ventura County communities to Los Angeles, while Amtrak provides passenger rail service four times each day from points in Ventura County to San Diego. Amtrak honors METROLINK passes, expanding commuter services to six times daily.

The Community Memorial Hospital of San Buenaventura anchors the comprehensive network of state-of-the-art facilities and services with a 240-bed regional hospital and health center in the city of Ventura. These vast resources include a fitness center that offers programs for every level of need, including personal training and weight loss. The center for family health, advanced surgical specialties, cardiac care, physical therapy, maternity and neonatal intensive care, and pediatrics are just a few of the specialties. Ventura County Medical Center offers a full-service, acute-care hospital associated with the UCLA School of Medicine. The county’s busiest emergency room combines with a 24-hour heliport for rapid response.

Educational opportunities in and near Ventura County are equally impressive, encompassing public and private schools with an emphasis on advanced technology. Options for higher education close to home include Ventura College, a respected institution founded in 1925 that offers diverse programs. The college is one of only two community colleges in the world to offer Cisco Wireless Technology classes, a pilot project that includes another college in Hawaii. The Ventura County Community College District is a partner in California’s vast system. The district’s three colleges — Ventura, Moorpark, and Oxnard — provide a wealth of degree and certification programs as well as continuing education and college-track opportunities. California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The newest campus in the state system and Ventura County’s first four-year public university is California State University-Channel Islands, welcoming its first freshman class in 2003. The University of California at Santa Barbara also provides an extension in Ventura.

From the natural beauty of the terrain to diverse recreational opportunities, Ventura County offers a rare quality of life. Situated along the eastern side of the Ventura County and Los Angeles County border, the City of Westlake Village was incorporated in 1981. The city represents a unique and attractive master-planned community that was first developed in the mid ’60s. The lakeside and surrounding area support a population of approximately 9,000 residents, although hundreds of commercial and light industrial businesses are also at home within the 5.4-square-mile community.
