Situated on the western shores of Lake Michigan, panoramic Sheboygan County encompasses a number of rural townships that blend with growing cities and charming villages. State-of-the-art healthcare is available close to home in modern hospitals supported by skilled professionals in every major specialty and convenient clinics close to home. Aurora Health Care plays a leading role in the county, providing two of the area’s hospitals, Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center and Aurora Valley View Medical Center. Aurora Sheboygan offers a wide range of specialties that include cancer treatment in cooperation with the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic and cardiac care through the Muth Heart Center. Located in Plymouth, Aurora Valley View plays a vital part in the regional healthcare network by offering advanced services close to home. In addition to 24-hour emergency services and urgent care, this full-service hospital is a leader in senior services. The medical center also operates a nursing home and retirement apartments. St. Nicholas Hospital offers a full-service community hospital with an impressive number of specialties. An affiliate of the Hospital Sisters Health System, the hospital is also located in Sheboygan.

The public school districts that serve Sheboygan County from kindergarten through the 12th grade provide an excellent pupil-teacher ratio, a solid core curriculum, abundant opportunities for extra-curricular activities, and special programs for the gifted and challenged. Several schools in Sheboygan City have received national “E” awards for excellence, and the Sheboygan Area School District has been cited as a Gold Medal District by Expansion Management Magazine. Opportunities for higher education include the private Lakeland College near Howards Grove, a four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Undergraduate degrees in more than 40 majors combine with programs for working adults and several master’s degree programs. Lakeshore Technical College is another popular choice for those who are seeking technical diploma programs. Associate degrees, apprenticeship programs, specialized training, and continuing education courses are all available. Sheboygan is also home to one of the extension campuses for the University of Wisconsin. Once a freshman-sophomore university, UW Sheboygan has forged collaborative programs that make it possible to complete select four-year degree programs without ever leaving the county.

The small villages of Cedar Grove, Oostburg, and Random Lake offer the close-know spirit that only a very small town can provide. Cedar Grove was first established by Dutch settlers, and many of their descendents still call the community home. Artifacts and remnants of the area’s early history can be found at the Het Museum, just one block from the historic Te Ronde House. Residents welcome a rush of visitors for the annual Holland Festival. Situated between Interstate 43 and Highway 32, Oostburg was founded in the 1840s and shares Cedar Grove’s Dutch heritage. Miniature windmills and brilliant beds of tulips offer captivating reminders of yesterday, crowned by the annual Heritage Day celebration. Random Lake provides a friendly small residential village highlighted by the Luxemburg Heritage Museum, which is filled with memorabilia and artifacts from local settlements. Residents of all three villages enjoy superb recreational sites close to home from lakes and rivers to deep forests and pristine wilderness.

Windsurfing on the lake, pulling in the big catch, enjoying a theatrical production, listening to live musical entertainment at a lively night spot, and witnessing the exhilarating speed of race cars at Road America are just a few of the many leisure activities. The Kettle Moraine State Forest offers a paradise for exploration and discovery, while the beach beckons water-sport enthusiasts. Because this charming resort village has been welcoming guests to elegant Victorian resorts for more than a century, local shops, galleries, and restaurants are exceptional. The county seat of Sheboygan serves as the primary economic engine for the region, particularly in terms of business and industry.
