Bicycling is a healthy and adventuresome pastime. It can also be a great way to get to work. Each year more and more people are discovering the advantages of exploring Michigan by bicycle. Quiet, rural roads, fall color tours, scenic bikeways, beautiful historic homes, miles of shoreline, white beaches, lakes, streams, woodlands, farms and backwoods areas are all a part of biking in Michigan. Bikes are allowed on all paved roads in all 96 state parks and recreation areas. Cross-Country Skiing
Michigan boasts more than 3,400 kilometers of cross-country or Nordic ski trails in 180 ski areas statewide — many that offer the finest of groomed trails. Cross-country skiing opportunities range from the adventure of breaking your own trail in county, state, or national forests and parks to the convenience of resorts that feature excellent trails, rental equipment, and ski instruction.
Downhill Skiing
Abundant, naturally occurring snow supplemented with advanced snow-making equipment welcomes ski enthusiasts to hit the slopes as early as Thanksgiving and as late as Easter. Michigan’s slopes range from 100 feet high to well above 600 feet, accommodating skiers of all abilities.
Snowmobiling
The sport of snowmobiling has grown in popularity over the years, and the Traverse City area excels in offering the ideal terrain for a fast-paced ride through freshly fallen snow.
