TAX & LICENSE / PET LICENSES

New Mexico law dictates that anyone owning a dog or cat over the age of three months must have the animal vaccinated against rabies. Any dog or cat brought into Mexico must be confined by the owner until this vaccination is administered, with one week given as a grace period. If new residents have a valid and current certificate of vaccination issued by a veterinarian in another state, this requirement can be waived. Animal control including registration, leash rules, barking ordinances, and other issues fall within the jurisdiction of each municipality or the county in the case of unincorporated areas.
