DEMOGRAPHICS / CLIMATE

The reputation for daily rainfall is exaggerated, as newcomers to metropolitan Seattle will soon discover. For example, annual rainfall in Seattle is only 37 inches. By comparison, New York measures over 40 inches per year. The climate of Central Puget Sound is relatively mild, since mountain ranges buffer the severe weather patterns from the north and east. Temperatures are moderate year-round with highs in the mid-70s in the summer and only a handful of below-freezing days in the winter. Snow averages 11 inches and the average annual temperature is 51.7 degrees.
