Picturesque rural scenes and friendly small towns characterize Campbell County, one of the fast-growing areas in the northern Kentucky section of Greater Cincinnati. Just minutes away from downtown Cincinnati, the Campbell County communities are part of the area known as northern Kentucky. Chase College of Law. Thomas More College in Crestview Hills is a small Roman Catholic liberal arts college with a national reputation. Lifestyle
Campbell County is home to some of the most celebrated attractions and important resources in northern Kentucky. The spectacular Newport Aquarium in Newport is rated among the top 25 attractions in the entire nation by the internationally famous Zagat Survey. This stellar science museum invites visitors to explore an amazing variety of aquatic life from around the world, showcased in 70 exhibits and 14 galleries including five seamless acrylic tunnels more than 200 feet long. Newport on the Levee, where the Newport Aquarium is one of many attractions, offers 10 acres of entertainment venues, wonderful shops, and casual or fine dining opportunities. Because Campbell County offers such a picturesque water-oriented setting, other communities like Bellevue and Dayton are following Newport’s impressive leadership. Dayton has developed nearly 60 acres of its waterfront in to the Watertown Yacht Club, offering hundreds of boat slips as well as a marina and restaurant complex.

Land recreation and outdoor adventures are equally accessible in Campbell County, where local, regional, and state parks encourage hiking, biking, swimming, boating, camping, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting. Closer to home, the county operates several major parks that are filled with premier sports facilities, including the 72-acre Edward S. Pendery Sports Park and Pendery Park. A.J. Jolly Park is one of the largest county parks in Kentucky, sprawling over 900 acres to offer an 18-hole golf course, a 200-acre fishing lake, nine ball fields and four soccer fields, play equipment, campgrounds, a bird sanctuary, a boat launch and fishing pier, and public and private picnic areas.

Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights enriches the community with its cultural arts series, although the bright lights of Cincinnati with its world-class cultural venues and attractions remains easily accessible. Adopting the slogan “Where the city meets the country,” Alexandria has become one of Kentucky’s fastest-growing municipalities. Along with transportation expansions and improvement in Greater Cincinnati, the AA Highway that now cuts a swath across northern Kentucky has spurred dramatic development. The housing selection ranges from vintage farms surrounded by picturesque fields to vibrant new subdivisions and country manors on spacious acreage. Affordable land and housing have drawn many to this blend of rural and suburban flavors. Established in the 1800s, lovely Bellevue is aptly named for the breathtaking vistas that it commands from the vantage point of its riverside location. Just five minutes from downtown Cincinnati, Bellevue enjoys spectacular views of the city skyline and twinkling lights. This river city features Port Bellevue, a popular site for business and residential development, including a new $40 office and residential mixed-use complex. Most of the cities restaurants are also nestled in Port Bellevue. Just across the river from Cincinnati, Bellevue features the charming district of Fairfield Avenue with its quaint shops, friendly services, and great eateries. Affordable older homes and newer condominiums are attracting a mix of first-home buyers, singles, and families.

Named for a freshwater underground spring that was first discovered in the 1780s, Cold Spring is a friendly city filled with attractive homes and lovely parks. Like many of the communities in northern Kentucky, Cold Spring now features a growing collection of new suburbs that complement the area’s older homes. This area is home to the national headquarters of the Disabled American Veterans organization, although a large industrial park with a wide variety of tenants is close by. Shopping is available close to home in Crestview Hills and Florence at regional malls. The campus for Northern Kentucky University is also just minutes from home. Part of the attraction to Cold Springs is the commuting ease into downtown Cincinnati and the flourishing employment centers in the greater metropolitan region. Local parks provide abundant facilities and opportunities for recreation and relaxation, including scenic trails and sports courts and fields.

Distinguished as one of the tri-state area’s most historic riverfront communities, Dayton is only a seven-minute drive from downtown Cincinnati. Like several of the other cities along the river’s path, Dayton is awakening to the potential of premier development around this natural feature. The colorful and attractive $10 million Watertown Yacht Club encompasses 58 acres to offer 440 in-water slips and 250 dry-dock slips. This sprawling marina and restaurant complex commands unspoiled views of the southern Ohio hillsides and was built in 1988 on the land where a famous beach and entertainment center once stood at the turn of the century. Among the popular community events in Dayton are Mary Inglis Day and Light Up Dayton. The lush city parks are ideal for sports or relaxation and feature summer recreational programs for the youth. Dayton is located in northern Kentucky but is often confused with the much larger metropolis of Dayton in southern Ohio.

Dubbed as “the city of beautiful homes,” Fort Thomas was chosen as the site for a military post in 1877 for its lovely rolling highlands and prime location overlooking the Ohio River. Over the centuries, the city has evolved into one of the premier bedroom communities in Greater Cincinnati. Focusing on a quality community atmosphere rather than industry, Fort Thomas is brimming over with a wide variety of homes that demonstrate pride of ownership regardless of their price range or age. Most streets are designed in quiet cul-de-sac style shaded by magnificent trees, and many homes feature sought-after river and city-light views. Located just south of Fort Thomas along US Highway 27, this area was profoundly changed by the opening of the university and Interstate 471. Founded in 1795, historic Newport provides an excellent blend of treasures from the past and contemporary development. The community’s lively and beautiful revitalized riverfront area provides a striking view of the Cincinnati skyline. The riverfront also hosts several premier attractions including the Newport Aquarium and Newport on the Levee. The latter is a $210 million food and entertainment complex near the World Peace Bell and Monmouth Street, another area that has been beautified with new walkways, trees, and street lamps. The contiguous residential communities of Southgate and Wilder share an ideal location near Interstates 471 and 275. Wilder’s Licking River frontage is home to the Northern Kentucky Port Authority.
