Quality of Life
Jackson County, the 22nd county of Georgia was created in 1796 from part of Franklin County. It was named for Revolutionary War General, Congressman, and Senator James Jackson. Today, the county has nine municipalities. The county seat is Jefferson, named for President Thomas Jefferson. It was originally located on the site of an Indian Village, Thomocoggan. In recent years, Commerce, the most populous city in Jackson County, has become a leading outlet center. Other municipalities include Braselton, Arcade, Hoschton, Maysville, Nicholson, Pendergrass, and Talmo.

The Jackson County courthouse, built in 1829, stands as a prime example of the beautiful neoclassical architecture once popular throughout Georgia. Georgia state high school track and field championships are held in Jefferson, home of one of the top track facilities in the state. Other attractions include the Atlanta International Dragway in Commerce and Road Atlanta in Braselton. A strong sense of community pride is evident throughout the county with the celebration of Spring Fling in April, the Cold Sassy Fall Festival in August, and Crawford Long Days in November.

The land that would later become Braselton was first settled in 1876 when William Harrison Braselton moved to the area from Hall County. The town was incorporated in 1916 and Braselton became the town’s first mayor. Today, Braselton’s Town Hall is the original home built by William Henry Braselton in 1909 and is regularly open for tours. Now located in Jackson, Barrow, Gwinnett, and Hall counties, Braselton enjoys convenient access to I-85 and Georgia Highways 211, 60, 124, and 53. These major arteries facilitate easy travel throughout the entire region. Braselton residents find themselves just 45 minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta and just 60 minutes from Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport. Residents also enjoy close proximity to the Chateau Elan Winery and Resort and the Mall of Georgia.
