Serving as the seat of government for Fluvanna County, the small community of Palmyra blends historic properties and older homes with lovely new subdivisions and elegant country manors. One of the jewels in this area is River Oaks, a residential community of new homes that enjoy the secluded luxury of half-acre wooded lots and easy access to Lake Monticello. Bringing together the finest aspects of the present and the past, Palmyra preserves Maggie’s house, which also serves as the headquarters of the Fluvanna Historical Society. Other notable preservations include the 1828 Old Stone Jail, the 1830 courthouse, Confederate Park, and the Palmyra Methodist Church. Through the centuries, the once-vibrant town of Palmyra that boomed from river, canal, and railroad access survived as a sleepy village with a proud history. Today, Palmyra is reinventing itself as a wonderful place to call home. Just a 20-minute drive from Charlottesville, the Palmyra area is poised for continued growth and development.
