ACADEMICS / SENIOR RESOURCES

Metropolitan Las Vegas is a region where senior citizens who would like to take classes or pursue a degree have a diversity of options. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers a variety of courses in basic curricula and continuing education. Both UNLV and the Community College of Southern Nevada allow seniors to audit or take classes for credit at no charge. Las Vegas High School offers night-school classes that are ideal for learning a new skill or developing a new hobby. Retired military members can attend Golden Gate University at Nellis Air Force Base.
A unique type of curriculum that is offered occasionally through UNLV is the Elderhostel program. Seniors are able to enroll for the summer sessions at any of the participating colleges or universities in the United States or Europe. Students are able to take several classes and still have enough free time to tour the local points of interest. The following organizations and resources can provide more detailed information on available opportunities that enrich an active senior lifestyle.
