Requirements for entering the public school system in Pennsylvania include a legal birth certificate, the child’s social security number, proof of residency, and up-to-date immunization records signed by a physician. All new students must complete a physical exam. Custody papers are required if applicable. The cut-off date for kindergarten entrance varies with the school district; consult your local district for guidelines. Transferring students should being the latest report card, transcripts from previous schools, or contact information for ordering transcripts. Students are required to complete immunizations prior to school attendance. Pennsylvania offers free vaccines to children who are not insured or whose insurance does not cover vaccines.
